Type Specimen Book

The objective of this project was to create a type specimen book centered around a typeface created by the designer Adrien Frutiger. Research on the designer and the typeface was conducted to draw inspiration for the design concept of the book. The Type Specimen book delves into Univers Next Pro, a timeless Swiss neo-grotesque typeface crafted by Adrian Frutiger in 1957. The design concept of the book was inspired by the utilization of this typeface in the vintage purple wayfinding signs along the routes leading to Walt Disney World, and its presence in select areas within the theme park. Although these distinctive signs can still be spotted along the park entrances, there’s a gradual transition away from them. Using this concept I created a cover, title page, table of contents, three chapters of content, and a colophon. By reconstructing the nostalgic wayfinding signs found in Disney, I showcased the diverse array of styles and weights in Univers Next Pro. Leveraging these iconic signs enabled me to create a distinctive book, offering a demonstration of how this typeface was employed in the real world but also demonstrating an in-depth exploration and analysis of the type itself.
